Santa Barbara High baseball’s Milo Winckler scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the seventh to clinch a 5-4 tournament victory over Roosevelt High on Monday at Brookhurst Park in Anaheim.
It was a back-and-forth affair, as Roosevelt struck first in the top of the first before the Dons answered with two runs in the bottom half on RBI singles by Winckler and James King.
Santa Barbara High extended its lead to 3-1 in the second thanks to a Roosevelt error. After two scoreless frames, Roosevelt jumped back in the lead with a three-run fifth inning to go up 4-3.
A wild pitch in the bottom half of the fifth allowed Jetner Welch to score and tie the game at 4-4, setting up the Dons’ walk-off win.
Emiliano Ramirez tossed five strong innings for the Dons, while Max Weddle tossed two shutout innings of relief to secure the win.
Santa Barbara High will be on the road against Valley Christian on Tuesday.
