Santa Barbara High track & field dropped its Channel League meet with Oxnard High on Wednesday at Peabody Stadium.

The Dons’ boys team narrowly fell by a score of 65-62, while the girls team lost 69-56 at the hands of the Yellow Jackets.

“Just a few points in one event or another. The kids who lined up all battled and were behind each other every step out there today,” Santa Barbara High head coach Olivia Perdices said.

Elina Stump shined once again for the girls, winning the long jump and the 100 hurdles while taking second in the 200-meter with a personal best time.

“Elina understands the process and how we’re trying to move through her season,” Perdices said. “She’s stacking some nice performances and really leans into the team aspect and her role as a leader. It makes a huge impact on everyone around her.”

Stump was joined by Olivia Arevalo, Nicole Buist and Ailey Alexander on the Dons’ 4×400 relay squad that captured first place.

Meanwhile, Jarrod Shalhoob Conaway and Malachi Johnston were each double individual event winners for Santa Barbara High. Shalhoob Conaway won the triple jump and high jump, while Johnston took first in the shot put and discus.

“[Shalhoob Conaway and Johnston] have been picking up big points on the field for us all year,” Perdices said.

In the 100-meter, the Santa Barbara High trio of Christopher Lopez, Roman Hoover and Ben Medina swept the podium in that order.

Hoover added on a victory in the long jump, while Lopez came together with Ethan Haas, Ethan Walp and Jaden Molwane to win the 4×400 relay.

Hass rounded out the individual winners with a first-place showing in the 300 hurdles, while Walp came in second in the 1,600-meter and Molwane was second in the triple jump.

“Couldn’t ask anything more of those boys. They really got after it today and did a great job for us,” Perdices said.

The Dons will compete in the Simi Valley Invitational this weekend.
