A group of eight Santa Barbara runners joined more than 60,000 participants to compete in the 2025 TCS New York City Marathon on Sunday, Nov. 2.
“This race was about more than miles,” Santa Barbara local racer Karlyn Roberts said. “It was about dedication, consistency, and the friendships that have kept us motivated from our early morning runs on the coast to the finish line in Central Park.”
It wasn’t an easy feat to earn a spot in the marathon, as the locals competing found their way there thanks to either winning a lottery, raising funds for charity, or meeting qualifying standards.

While eight Santa Barbarians ran the course, the group was joined by spouses, parents and siblings who made the trip to cheer on their loved ones from start to finish across the city.
Every one of the Santa Barbara-based racers, who train with Santa Barbara Running and Racing, made their way through the five boroughs of New York and crossed the finish line of the marathon, an incredibly impressive feat.
The locals competing were Marcela Bonneau, Nakisa Herrick, Ida Meomartino, Karlyn Roberts, Kelsey Roberts, Chelsea Frei, Michaela Clemence and Shayne Mihalka.
