A 65-year-old Santa Barbara man died in a local hospital after being found unresponsive in his Main Jail cell on Thursday, Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Raquel Zick said.

Jonathan Lundahl was found unresponsive in his cell “with no signs of trauma” around 4 p.m. Thursday, Zick said.

He was transported to a local hospital, “where he suffered cardiac arrest,” she added.

Lundahl was pronounced dead Thursday night.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office said his death appears to be from natural causes, but there will be a full death investigation.

The Sheriff’s Office, which operates the county’s two jail facilities, reports all in-custody deaths.

Lundahl had been in jail custody since Sept. 24 and faced a charge of elder abuse, Zick said.
