A motorcyclist died early Friday morning in a crash with another vehicle in northern Santa Maria.
Shortly before 1 a.m. Santa Maria Police Department officers, along with Santa Maria firefighters and paramedics, responded to a traffic collision involving a vehicle and a motorcyclist at the intersection of Donovan Road and Western Avenue.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a 33-year-old male motorcyclist lying near the roadway.
He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The driver of the other vehicle remained at the site of the crash and fully cooperated with the investigation, police added.
The motorcyclist was traveling westbound on Donovan Road at a high speed, while the other vehicle was making a left turn from Western Avenue onto eastbound Donovan Road, according to preliminary findings from the crash investigation.
“Evidence and debris at the scene indicate that speed may have been a contributing factor in the collision,” police added.
The identity of the motorcyclist is being withheld pending notification of family members, police said..
