A criminal complaint with 10 felony counts of lewd and lascivious acts with a child has been filed in Santa Barbara County Superior Court against a Santa Maria man.
On Saturday, Santa Maria police officers located Jose Luis Diaz, 63, on an outstanding warrant and took him into custody without incident, Lt. Andy Magallon said.
During the course of the investigation, detectives determined that Diaz had victimized more than one child and believe there may be additional victims who have not yet come forward, Magallon added.
A criminal complaint filed Tuesday contends that the incident occurred in 1988, 2003 and 2019 and involved victims under age 14, according to the court document.
Along with the 10 felony charges, the criminal complaint includes a special circumstance for the sexual offense and special allegations the typical statute of limitation don’t apply and that crime involved aggravating factors.
Diaz was booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail with bail set at $350,000. He remained in custody Tuesday afternoon.
