One person has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of one man and for allegedly stabbing another man Tuesday afternoon in Santa Maria.

Personnel from the Santa Maria Police and Fire departments, along with American Medical Response paramedics, were dispatched at approximately 2:30 p.m. to the incident on the 200 block of North Western Avenue.

They found one patient in the front yard and a second patient inside the residence.

Officers located a male stabbing victim in stable condition, and a second victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the torso, police said Wednesday.

The gunshot victim was transported to Marian Regional Medical Center, but died due to his injuries. 

The man who died was Julio Sanchez Lopez, 24, of Santa Maria, police said.

Officers arrested Josue Anguiano, 31, of Santa Maria on suspicion of murder, attempted murder, dissuading a witness, and various felon firearms charges. 

Anguiano remained in the custody of the Santa Barbara County Jail on Wednesday, with bail set at $2 million.

Members of the Detective Bureau responded to the scene to begin investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
