The Santa Ynez Valley Concert Series will bring back the Takács Quartet, 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 23 at St. Mark’s-in-the-Valley, 2901 Nojoqui Ave., Los Olivos.
“Having the Takács Quartet want to come back to our series is an incredible honor and we are delighted to present them once again,” said Robert Cassidy, artistic director. “Their tour de force, all Beethoven program in 2023 brought down the house, and we anticipate a similar visceral experience this time around.”
The program features Beethoven’s “String Quartet in G Major, Op. 18, No. 2;” Nokuthula Ngwenyama’s “Flow;” and Dvořák’s “String Quartet No. 13 in G Major, Op. 106.”
The Takács Quartet includes Edward Dusinberre, first violin (since 1993); Harumi Rhodes, second violin (since 2018); Richard O’Neill, viola (since 2020); and András Fejér, cello (original member).
The quartet members are Christoffersen Fellows and have been artists in residence at the University of Colorado, Boulder since 1986.
During the summer Takács members join the faculty at the Music Academy of the West, running an intensive quartet seminar.

The group received international attention in 1977, winning First Prize and the Critics’ Prize at the International String Quartet Competition in Evian, France. The quartet made its North American debut tour in 1982. Learn more at https://www.takacsquartet.com/.
