The Santa Barbara Volleyball Club Boys 17U Molten team captured the gold medal at the SoCal Cup Open Championship in Salt Lake City last weekend.

Santa Barbara faced off against some of the nation’s best talent in the Open Division, taking down several talented clubs en route to the championship.

“We are so proud of this accomplishment for the team and the club,” SBVC director Matt Riley said. “It has been a long time since we’ve earned a Gold at a national tournament in the Open division, and I can’t say enough about the dedication of the players, coaches, and our staff. 

“Court Young, our Boys Director and Randy Deweese, the team’s Head Coach, have set a high standard and it’s inspiring to see our athletes rise to meet it.”

Matteo Burdick led the charge for Santa Barbara and earned the Tournament MVP honors, while Keanu Nguyen and Hayes Costner each made the All-Tournament Team.

The team consists of Owen Willer, Moses Schlobohm, Maddox Denver, Keanu Nguyen, Matteo Burdick, Anders Dietenhofer, Nate Biron, Soren Alldredge, Tyler Walker and Hayes Costner.

Randy Deweese is the team’s head coach, while Owen Loncar is the assistant.
