The Carpinteria boys won the Citrus Coast League Championship title at Malibu High School Thursday, and the girls were runners-up.

And the Warriors finished the day with four new school records and 10 CIF Division 3 automatic time standards.

For the Carpinteria boys, senior Justin Main had an outstanding day, standing on the top of the podium in all four of his swims. Main was the king of the sprints for the boys division taking the 50 freestyle in a new school record and automatic qualifying time of 22.19.

Later, he swam a season best 49.41 in the 100 freestyle, barely missing the auto time. He also led off the 4 x 100 free relay with a better effort of 49.17.

Junior Jackson Melton also had a great day, improving on his impressive times from Tuesday’s prelims. He bettered both his record swims in the 200 IM (2.00.34), where he placed second, and won the 100 breaststroke (1.00.67), where he broke his own record in the event for the seventh time this season.

Both his efforts were CIF division 3 automatic time standards. He also was part of the medley relay and 4 x 100 free relay where he split a 49.66.

Asher Smith took the 100 backstroke title and improved on his automatic time from prelims with a 58.17. He also took second in the 50 freestyle with a personal best 23.19.

Jacob Otsuki took third in the 50 freestyle, was runner-up to Main in the 100 freestyle and teamed up with Smith, Melton, and Main for the wins in the medley and 4 x 100 free relays.

The Warrior boys placed 1-4 in both the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke. The swims of the meet came from freshman Aiden Alcaraz where he dropped a whopping 12 seconds in the 500 free (5.15.40) and 6 seconds in the 200 free (1.54.80) to claim second place and deep CIF consideration times.

The Lady Warriors kicked off the meet’s first event with an automatic time and new school record in the 200 medley relay.

“What better way to electrify the team and the crowd as they clocked in at 1:46:99, .58 seconds faster than the previous record,” Warrior coach Jon Otsuki said. “The boys held their own by winning the last relay of the meet in a near school record effort 3.19.98, also an automatic qualifying effort.”

Senior Erin Otsuki was the only double winner for the girls’ team. She touched in with a 25.20 in the 50 freestyle and a 59.22 in the 100 backstroke. She also led off the 4 x 100 free relay with a 54.17 split — all three times were recordable CIF automatic times.

Taylor Classen was the only other individual event winner for the Warrior girls, taking the 100 butterfly. She also contributed a third-place finish in the 100 backstroke.

Lilli Nemetz swam her lifetime best in the 200 IM (2.22.78), where she was runner-up. Nemetz was also runner up in the 500 freestyle. Giulia Piccoletti placed second in the 100 breaststroke and fourth in the 50 freestyle.

Otsuki, Classen, Nemetz and Piccoletti were part of both the winning medley relay as well as the runner-up 4 x 100 free relay.

Those Warriors with consideration or automatic times or members of relays will continue on with their season in hopes of having peak performances at CIF. Preliminary heats will be on Thursday with finals on Saturday at the Riverside Aquatic Complex.
