The sentencing date for Pierre Haobsh, who was convicted last November of the 2016 triple murders of the Han family, has been delayed yet again — to March 28 — just weeks before the sixth anniversary of the killings.
Haobsh, 32, appeared in Santa Barbara County Superior Court on Monday, and requested to represent himself during the sentencing hearing.
While Judge Brian Hill said he ultimately would allow Haobsh to represent, he added that he needed additional time to review documents related to the request.
A hearing to decide the matter is set for Tuesday, March 8, and sentencing has been rescheduled for March 28.
This is the second time the sentencing has been delayed, with the original date set for Jan. 24. It was then pushed back to Feb. 28.
Haobsh was convicted of murdering Santa Barbara Herb Clinic founder Dr. Weidong “Henry” Han, 57; his wife, Huijie “Jennie” Yu, 29; and their 5-year-old daughter, Emily. The family was found slain and wrapped in plastic wrap in their garage on Greenhill Way near Goleta on March 23, 2016.
Haobsh is being held at the Santa Barbara County Main Jail without bail, and faces a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
