A man was airlifted to the hospital Sunday afternoon after being seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash in Solvang, according to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.

The crash occurred shortly after 4 p.m. on the 1000 block of Alisal Road, said fire Capt. Scott Safechuck.

A Corvette left the roadway, cleared a fence, and travelled about 100 feet before coming to rest, Safechuck said.

The driver and sole occupant suffered moderate to major injuries, Safechuck said, and was flown by Calstar medical helicopter to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.

His name and details on his condition were not available.

Cause of the crash remained under investigation.
