Six people — including two pedestrians — were taken to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital Saturday afternoon after a vehicle collision on Stearns Wharf in Santa Barbara.
A white delivery van lost control shortly before 4 p.m. near the end of the wharf and collided with 10 vehicles, most of which were parked, according to Sgt. Bryan Kerr of the Santa Barbara Police Department.
The van also struck two pedestrians, seriously injuring them, Kerr said.
Among the injured were the occupants of a four-door sedan, according to Battalion Chief Cory Cloud of the Santa Barbara City Fire Department.
The van then struck the pedestrians before ramming into the wood barrier at the end of the wharf, Cory Cloud told Noozhawk.
The injured were taken to the hospital by AMR ambulances, with injuries ranging from minor to moderate, Cloud said.
There names and details on their conditions were not available.
“The driver of the van was interviewed by law enforcement at the scene of the accident,” Kerr said. “He was taken to Cottage Hospital for treatment related to a pre-existing medical condition.”
“The end of Stearns Wharf is going to be closed for a couple of hours,” Cloud said.
The incident was under investigation by the Police Department, Kerr said, adding that “the collision does not appear to be an intentional act.”
