Central Coast families are invited to a day where the sky becomes a canvas and the community takes flight at a free Family Kite Festival, noon-4 p.m. Sunday, April 12 at Rotary Centennial Park, 2625 S. College Drive, Santa Maria.
The Children’s Resource & Referral Discovery Museum, in partnership with the Santa Maria Recreation & Parks Department, will host the event.
“This high-energy, family-centered event is designed to bring people together through simple joy, outdoor play, and shared connection,” organizers said.
Attendees can experience an afternoon filled with soaring colorful kites, live music, food vendors, and interactive activities for children and families of all ages.
“This event represents more than a day at the park. It is a strategic investment in connection, belonging, and the kind of childhood moments that shape strong communities,” said leadership from the Children’s Resource & Referral Discovery Museum.
“When families gather in spaces like this, something powerful happens. Barriers lower, laughter rises, and community strengthens,” they said.
Event highlights include:
- A sky filled with kites and open space for families to fly their own.
- Live music and entertainment for all ages, featuring DJ Pete.
- Local food vendors offering a variety of family-friendly options.
- A welcoming, inclusive environment.
“The Kite Festival reflects a broader vision to create accessible, meaningful experiences that support families and elevate the importance of play as a critical component of healthy development,” organizers said.
