Soprano Elissa Johnston will take the stage with The Choral Society for the ensemble’s Visionaries Then & Now concert, 3 p.m. Sunday, May 12 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 909 N. La Cumbre Road, Santa Barbara.
Johnston, known for her interpretations of works by composers from Handel to Messiaen, will be a featured soloist in the “Fauré Requiem” and Ola Gjeilo’s modern masterpiece “Dark Night of the Soul.”
The concert also will feature solos from Jimmer Bolden and Michal Dawson Connor. The concert will include “Waloyo Yamoni” and “Baba Yetu,” both contemporary adaptations of traditional African songs by Los Angeles-based composer Christopher Tin.
The Choral Society and orchestra is conducted by artistic director JoAnn Wasserman. There will be a reception immediately following the concert.
