The theme for 2023’s Old Spanish Days Fiesta was announced Monday on the steps of Santa Barbara City Hall.

This year’s theme is “Let’s Fiesta” and was announced by El Presidente David Bolton.

“It’s an honor to represent our city’s beloved Old Spanish Days Fiesta,” Bolton said. “So many in the community enjoy all the festivities that are part of Fiesta and to represent our organization, Old Spanish Days.”

Several changes have been made between last year and this year’s Fiesta. The parade route will return to Cabrillo Boulevard with a longer route from Castillo Street to Milpas.

Also returning this year to Fiesta, a full Mercado and carnival will be held at the beach.

“We’re really working hard to make sure that this Fiesta is for the entire community,” Bolton said. “It helps local businesses and nonprofits and now, events going on on the beach are tapping into a new audience.”

Santa Barbara High School students and dancers from the dance group Alma de Mexico performed at the announcement.

Alma de Mexico performer Sofia Chavez said the group practices all year to prepare for Fiesta.

City Council member Meagan Harmon and Santa Barbara Mayor Randy Rowse joined Fiesta El Presidente David Bolton on the steps of City Hall along with members of the Fiesta 2023 Board of Directors including El Primer Vice Presidente Brian Schwabacher;  El Segundo, Vice Presidente; El Tesorero, Colin Hayward; Le Secretaria & Presidente Inmediata Pasada, Maria Cabrera.

“The City of Santa Barbara is pleased to announce our continuing partnership with Old Spanish Days,” said Santa Barbara Mayor Randy Rowse. “Old Spanish Days brings our city our most time-honored and treasured tradition — Fiesta. The dancers, food, music and crowds make this celebration the largest community party of the year. Let’s Fiesta!”

This year marks Fiesta’s 99th year, having started in 1924. Fiesta 2023 will be held Aug. 2-6, with additional events beginning in April.
