With a major storm expected in Santa Barbara County next week, peaking from Tuesday, Dec. 23 through Thursday, Dec. 25, the city of Santa Barbara is offering Self-Serve Sandbag Stations, open 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday, Dec, 22, and Tuesday, Dec. 23.

“Be prepared for possible flooding in low-lying areas, strong winds, and dangerous flash flooding,” the city of Santa Barbara advises. Light rain is possible Sunday, Dec. 21 and Monday, Dec. 22.

The following two Santa Barbara Sandbag Stations, which provide support to the community during severe storm events at:

  • City Annex Yard, 401 E. Yanonali St.
  • City Fire Station 7, 2411 Stanwood Drive

Sandbags are available to city residents free of charge. The city Sandbag Distribution Policy is designed to assist in the protection of private property only during storm emergency conditions.

Note the following:

• Bring your own gloves and shovels and be prepared to fill the bags you need.
• Fill your sandbags halfway so they are not too heavy to lift and can be stacked properly.
• You may take 20 sandbags per trip.
