The top-seeded Bishop Diego girls lost in the semifinals of the CIF-SS Division 4A playoffs Saturday, 57-44 to Notre Dame Academy.

After falling behind by as much as 24 points, the Cardinals chipped away to trail by 12 with four minutes left.

“NDA shot the ball really well tonight,” Bishop Diego coach Jeff Burich said. “The 57 points we allowed was the most all season. It was just an off night for us, especially in the first half. We missed a lot of shots in the paint. We got a lot of offense rebounds in the first half but just couldn’t finish inside.

“Credit the girls, though,” he added, citing the late rally.

“Our crowd was great tonight. They were just the better team tonight.”

The Cardinals, 23-4, await the state playoff draw on February 26.
