The UC Santa Barbara softball team extended its winning streak to seven games after a 4-1 victory over California Baptist on Tuesday night.

Four runs over the course of the second and third innings, coupled with a complete game performance by Malaya Johnson, propelled the Gauchos over the Lancers.

In the first inning, the Lancers took an early lead after a double to center field, driving in a run for the home team. The inning ended with CBU leading 1-0.

The Gauchos responded in the second inning with contributions from Jazzy Santos, who hit a single through the right side, bringing in Bella Fuentes and Jaelyn Toledo, giving the Gauchos a 2-1 advantage.

Malaya Johnson made quick work of the Lancers in the second, striking out two.

In the third inning, Santa Barbara extended its lead as Emily Carr hit a two-run homer to left center, scoring Tehya Banks. The Lancers looked to cut the deficit after the first two batters of the inning got on.

With runners on second and third with one out, Johnson got the next batter to ground out to first before striking out the subsequent batter. The Gaucho defense left both runners stranded after getting the next batter to fly out to center field.

Neither the Lancers nor the Gauchos scored for the remainder of the game. With the Gauchos topping the Lancers, UC Santa Barbara finished its seven-game road stretch a perfect 7-0.

UC Santa Barbara will return home to Campus Diamond this weekend to host Cal State Bakersfield on Saturday and Sunday.

The Gauchos and Roadrunners will play a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 12 p.m., and a single game on Sunday, starting at 1 p.m. All three games will be broadcast on ESPN+ with live stats available.
