UCSB righthander Tyler Bremner was selected No. 2 overall by the Los Angeles Angels in the first round of the MLB Draft on Sunday.

Bremner is the highest draft pick in the history of the Gaucho program, with the previous highest being Dillon Tate at No. 4 overall in 2015.

The draft selection is a bit of a surprise around the league, as Bremner was projected to go in the second half of the first round in the majority of MLB.com mock drafts.

Nonetheless, Bremner had some of the best stuff from a starting pitcher in college baseball for the past two seasons.

He burst onto the scene in 2024 in his sophomore season, going 11-1 with an ERA of 2.54 while striking out 104 batters in 88 ⅔ innings.

The flamethrower followed that up with a 3.49 ERA and 111 strikeouts in 77 ⅓ innings in his junior campaign this past summer.

Bremner rewrote the record books as a Gaucho, setting the new program record for career strikeouts with 295. He was a two-time All-American and played for Team USA in the summer of 2024.

While his official compensation has not been announced, former college starter Chase Burns received a $9.25 million bonus for being selected second overall in 2024.

Bremner, like Burns, will look to make an impact at the minor league level and quickly rise up the ranks to help a struggling rotation in Anaheim.
