A wind-driven vegetation fire burned approximately 23 acres at Vandenberg Space Force Base on Friday afternoon before being contained.

Personnel from the Vandenberg Fire Department plus neighboring agencies including Los Padres National Forest responded at approximately 1:30 p.m. to the incident reportedly on South Base, according to emergency dispatch reports.

The fire reportedly wasn’t threatening any structures or infrastructure in the area.

Firefighters on the ground requested additional resources including a helicopter and a bull dozer crew.

Two hours after responding to the incident, firefighters had halted the blaze’s forward progress.

The fire was not affecting any roads on South Base.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation Friday.

Additional information was not immediately available.

Shortly after 2 p.m., firefighters also were dispatched to a structure fire in the 500 block of South G Street within the city of Lompoc.

The entire North County, including Vandenberg, is forecast to get wind gusts up to 15 mph Friday and Saturday, which could cause downed power lines and grass fires, NWS officials said.

Daytime temperatures are expected to be in the low 80s and high 70s this weekend across Santa Barbara County.
