The Santa Barbara Symphony has added violinist Steve Zander to its Board of Directors in the role of orchestra committee chair, musician liaison. The appointment reflects the shared commitment of the organization to expand its community impact and deliver on the symphony’s mission to bring joy, engagement, and connection through symphonic music.
The orchestra committee is comprised of fellow musicians Jon Lewis (principal trumpet), Bethany Mennemeyer (violin), Dustin McKinney (trumpet), Eddie Meneses (Erik Rynearson (principal viola), and Ina Veli (assistant concertmaster, violin).
The orchestra committee represents the interests of the orchestra members and was instrumental in navigating myriad atypical changes needed to bring to life the symphony’s recent virtual season.
Zander joined the Santa Barbara Symphony in 2012 and can be heard on numerous motion picture soundtracks, including “A Quiet Place” and “A Quiet Place II,” “Batman vs. Superman,” and “Logan.” He has performed with the Pasadena Symphony, New West Symphony, Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, and Pacific Symphony. and serves as associate concertmaster of Opera Santa Barbara.
“Our organization cherishes our members of the orchestra. Their perspective, leadership and partnership have been a key part of finding a path forward through the pandemic,” said Kathryn R. Martin, president/CEO. “As we return to live performances this season, we all look forward to Steve’s participation, not only as chair of the orchestra committee, but also as a longtime member of the Santa Barbara Symphony.”
Zander lives in Malibu.
