The St. Francis Foundation of Santa Barbara on Saturday honored its “St. Francis Angels”: physicians M. Dean Vogel, left, and Bowdre Carswell; Sister Christine Bowman on behalf of the Franciscan Sisters of the Sacred Heart who founded the hospital in 1908; registered nurse Lynn Menicucci; and Arthur Barron, the St. Francis Foundation’s newest honorary board member. More than 300 community members, including former staff, volunteers and friends of St. Francis Medical Center, gathered for a final farewell to the hospital before demolition begins next week.
