An earthquake sent rolling ripples through Santa Barbara and Goleta on Tuesday morning, but no damage or injuries were reported.
Seismologists said the 5.4-magnitude quake, which struck at 11:40 a.m., had a relatively shallow epicenter, just 7.6 miles underground about about two miles southwest of Chino Hills, about 120 miles east of Santa Barbara. The temblor was felt as far away as Las Vegas and San Diego.
The quake’s initial jolt lasted about 15 seconds and was followed by ripples for up to two minutes, seismologists said. Within the first hour, nearly 30 aftershocks were reported.
