The Santa Barbara City College women’s volleyball team extended a strong Pierce team to overtime in the first game before dropping a 26-24, 25-18, 25-22 decision on Wednesday.

Sam Potter, who played at nearby Taft High, had 12 kills for the Vaqueros (0-2) while Vanessa Shaw notched 20 digs against the Brahmas (7-0). Jessica Tune added five kills and Angelica Smith had four.

“We played so much better than Friday (in their season opener),” coach Ed Gover said. “We improved by leaps and bounds.”

SBCC makes its home debut at 6 p.m. Friday against Santa Rosa.
