One person was transported to Cottage Hospital with critical injuries Wednesday afternoon after a collision between a semi-truck and a red SUV.
Emergency crews responded at around 12:45 p.m. to Highway 101 northbound near Patterson Avenue, according to Santa Barbara County Fire Department Capt. Mike Gray.
The collision occurred in a construction zone. All vehicles remained upright and sustained moderate damage, per emergency radio traffic.
Initial information indicated the semi-truck crashed into the center divider before hitting the SUV, according to the California Highway Patrol. The SUV driver was transported to the hospital with injuries.
The far left lane of the highway was blocked and emergency personnel remained at the scene as of 1:17 p.m. The Highway 101 entrance to Highway 217 was also closed after the crash, according to the CHP.
Gray said the cause of the collision was under investigation.
“Motorists are advised to drive with caution in the area,” Gray said.
