One person was dead and another was taken to the hospital Tuesday afternoon after a single-vehicle crash inside a downtown Santa Barbara parking structure, according to the Santa Barbara Police Department.

The incident occurred shortly before 5 p.m. in the Lot 10 parking structure at Anacapa and Ortega streets.

It appeared that the white sedan, which sustained major front-end damage, entered the parking structure from Ortega Street and did not slow down, slamming into a wall.

Police Sgt. Edward Kasper told Noozhawk that one person was dead at the scene and another was taken by AMR ambulance to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.

That person’s name and details on their condition were not available.

Kasper added that investigators were still trying to determine what happened.

Access to the parking structure was shut down following the crash.

Noozhawk Staff Writer Daniel Green reported from the scene.
