One person was dead and another had minor injuries after a rollover vehicle crash on Highway 101 in Goleta on Tuesday, according to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.
At 5:15 a.m., the 1999 Ford Ranger pickup truck spun out on the Fairview Avenue onramp and ended up on its roof about 100 feet off the roadway in a field, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The driver, Pedro Contreras, 64, of Santa Barbara, had minor injuries and was transported to the hospital as a precaution, according to the CHP.
His passenger, a 55-year-old Santa Barbara man, suffered major injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene, CHP spokesman Jon Gutierrez said.
The Coroner’s Bureau identified him as Florencio Lagara-Perez.
CHP investigators are looking into the cause of the crash, and do not suspect alcohol and/or drugs as a factor, Gutierrez said.
Caltrans closed the onramp during the emergency response to the incident, but reopened it at about 8:50 a.m.
Other traffic incidents reported Tuesday morning on the South Coast including a jack-knifed big rig blocking Calle Real near the county campus on Camino del Remedio.
The incident was reported at 7:55 a.m., and the CHP reported a full road closure of Calle Real between Dexter Drive and North San Antonio Road.
The roadway was reported fully reopened at about 9:30 a.m.
