Carpinteria City Council member Gregg Carty became the city’s mayor on Monday, after being selected by his fellow council members.

Council member Al Clark was voted in for vice mayor. Both are in their first terms as council members, and will serve two-year terms in their new posts.

Carty, a contractor, and Clark, an engineer, along with the rest of the council will deal with many of the issues other small coastal towns in California face, including balancing growth and development with their identity as a small town, the environment and the economy.
