Santa Barbara County fire officials earlier this week decided to drop the practice of designating a certain part of the year “fire season.”

Instead, fire season in Santa Barbara County will be a year-round designation, because of ongoing dry conditions that make fires in this region particularly likely. The only difference will be the degree of the fire risk throughout the year.

County fire officials are expected to declare the start of low-fire season at the end of the week.
