Thirteen area football players have been named to All-CIF-Southern Section teams for the 2021 season.

There are six players honored in 11-man football and seven players off Cate’s CIF Division 1championship team in 8-man football.

In Division 2, Bishop Diego senior Logologo Va’a was selected as a defensive lineman. He led the Cardinals to a Camino League title and a Division 2 playoff berth, the highest playoff division in program history.

Santa Barbara High had senior offensive linemen Johnathon Perez and Ryan Holguin named to the Division 6 All-CIF team.

Coach JT Stone called them the backbone of the team. Their solid play led the Dons to a third straight CIF playoff appearance and a first-round victory.

Santa Ynez senior linebacker Mikey Gills was honored in Division 8. His stellar play led the Pirates to a second-place finish in the Pacific View League, an 8-3 record and a CIF playoff appearance.

Lompoc senior standouts Sheldon Canley and Deville Dickerson were selected to the CIF Division 9 team.

Canley rushed for 1,449 yards and 21 touchdowns. He signed with San Diego State.

Dickerson was one of the top kick returners in the state. He had 850 yards in total return yardage and scored four touchdowns on punt returns and four on kickoff returns. He also caught nine touchdown passes.

In eight-man football, Division 1-champion Cate had several players honored.

Senior quarterback Will Bouma was recognized as the division MVP and receiver Mason Oetgen was named Offensive MVP.

Seniors Ethan Ligon and Matt Holmes were named to the first-team offense and sophomore Kristian Scurtis was picked to the defensive unit.

Juniors Jack Wheland and Charlie Patel received offensive second-team honors.

Ben Soto was honored as the Coach of the Year. He guided Cate to its first title in the program’s 17-year history.
