Santa Maria Police officers arrested two people after responding to a reported robbery on the 1000 block of East Donovan Road just before 9:30 p.m. Friday.
Two people were assaulted in their disabled vehicle by “three or four” suspects, police said.
“The suspects opened the driver’s door and physically assaulted the male victim while the female victim attempted to intervene and was also struck,” police said.
The suspects then allegedly stole one of the victim’s iPhone.
Police used surveillance video from a nearby business to identify a gray sedan and “multiple subjects matching the suspects’ descriptions.” The suspects were found at a mall parking structure, where police detained several individuals.”
Two were arrested on suspicion of robbery and conspiracy. Police identified them on Saturday as Ivan Lopez Montes, 22, and Jose Diego Jaimes Vargas, 23.
Montes and Varges were both booked into Santa Barbara County Jail, with bail set at $50,000. Both remained in custody as of Saturday morning.
The investigation is ongoing.
