Two drivers rolled their vehicles off Highway 101 onto railroad tracks near El Capitán State Beach Tuesday afternoon, about a quarter mile from each other, Santa Barbara County Fire officials said.

These crashes happened about three hours after another rollover along the Gaviota Coast.

In a 12:30 p.m. crash, a male driver was transported to the hospital with moderate injuries after a vehicle overturned from the southbound Highway 101 lanes onto the Union Pacific Railroad tracks.

About 15 minutes later, another driver had a rollover vehicle crash onto the railroad tracks, about a quarter mile away, Fire Department spokesperson Karen Cruz-Orduña said.

That driver had minor injuries and declined medical treatment, she added.

The railroad tracks were closed to train traffic while crews worked to remove the vehicles.

The California Highway Patrol was investigating the incidents.

The right-hand lane of southbound Highway 101 was temporarily closed in the area while emergency crews responded to the scene.

Other reported crashes in the region were causing major traffic delays.

CHP Santa Barbara officials said one lane of northbound Highway 101 was closed near Sheffield Drive in Montecito as of 1:30 p.m.

Light rain was expected throughout the region Tuesday and Wednesday, and officials advised drivers to use caution on wet roads.

“As a reminder, ensure proper tire tread and good windshield wipers, provide more distance between you & other vehicles, and drive slower,” Cruz-Orduña said.
