Two people were transported to the hospital on Saturday — one critically injured and the other with minor injuries — after a head-on vehicle collision at Vandenberg Village.

Emergency crews from the Lompoc Fire Department and the Santa Barbara County Fire Department responded just before 9 a.m. to the crash at Burton Mesa Boulevard and Constellation Road.

Lompoc Fire Battalion Chief Christopher Martinez said one person had to be extricated from a vehicle.

One person was transported to Marian Regional Medical Center and the other to Lompoc Hospital, both via ground ambulance, Martinez said.

Their names and details on their conditions were not available.

Burton Mesa Boulevard was closed for approximately an hour while crews responded to the collision, Martinez said.

Early information from the California Highway Patrol indicated other vehicles were turning around in the middle of the roadway to avoid the crash scene.

The CHP was investigating the cause of the collision.
