One motorcycle rider died and a second rider, a juvenile, was critically injured Monday night in a crash at the western edge of Lompoc.
At approximately 9:20 p.m., personnel from the Lompoc Police and Fire departments, along with American Medical Response, were dispatched to the incident on the 1800 block of West Central Avenue, just past Bailey Avenue.
The collision involved a passenger vehicle and a motorcycle with two riders, Lompoc Fire Capt. David Boeken told Noozhawk.
First responders administered CPR to at least one of the injured motorcyclists, according to emergency dispatch reports.
The motorcycle riders suffered major injuries and were taken to Lompoc Valley Medical Center and Marian Regional Medical Center in Santa Maria.
An adult male motorcycle rider died due to his injuries while a juvenile rider remained in critical condition, police Sgt. Scott Morgan said Tuesday.
The name of the man who died will be released after family members have been notified, police said.
The age of the juvenile injured in the crash was not released.
The driver in the passenger vehicle was not injured, Boeken said.
Members of the Lompoc Police Department were investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
On Tuesday, police said the driver of the passenger vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
Drugs or alcohol did not appear to be factors in the crash, according to the preliminary investigation by police.
The intersection of West Central and Western avenues was temporarily closed to facilitate the investigation and ensure public safety, police said.
