Two people were injured, one seriously, in a collision Wednesday morning on Highway 101 in Santa Barbara, according to the Santa Barbara City Fire Department.

The crash involving a car and a pickup truck occurred at about 7:45 a.m. in the southbound lanes near Milpas Street, fire Battalion Chief Robert Mercado told Noozhawk.

One vehicle came to rest on its roof in the two left lanes, Mercado said, and responders found the female driver lying in the roadway with moderate to major injuries.

She possibly had been ejected from the vehicle during the crash, Mercado said, but that had not been confirmed.

The pickup ended up on its side off the roadway, and the male driver sustained minor injuries, Mercado said.

The two patients were taken by AMR ambulance to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. Their names and details on their conditions were not available.

The freeway was shut down to a single lane for a time after the crash, which was under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
