Two people were taken to the hospital on Sunday after being injured in a residential structure fire, according to the Santa Maria Fire Department.

At approximately 7:30 a.m. Santa Maria firefighters responded to the incident on the 1300 block of Ronald Place, south of Stowell Road.

Firefighters found a garage engulfed in flames, and made an aggressive attack to protect the living area of the home. 

Two civilians were transported by AMR ambulance to Marian Regional Medical Center for treatment of minor to moderate injuries, fire officials said.

Their names and details on their conditions were not available.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation. 

Officers from the Santa Maria Police Department handled traffic control in the area during the incident.

Cal Fire personnel also were dispatched to assist.
