Two people were injured Tuesday evening when a vehicle reportedly hit a bicyclist and then crashed head-on into a bus near State and Mission streets in Santa Barbara.

Police officers responded at 6:35 p.m. to a report of a traffic collision at 2000 State St., Lt. Ryan DeJohn said.

Witnesses reported that an SUV was northbound on State Street when the vehicle struck a bicyclist who was waiting in the turn pocket to turn west onto Mission Street, DeJohn said.

“The SUV then crossed into oncoming traffic” and collided head-on with a Metropolitan Transit District bus, he said in a statement.

The bicyclist had minor injuries and the SUV driver was transported to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital with moderate injuries, police said.

No one on the bus was injured.

The collision was under investigation, and no other information was immediately available, according to police.
