Two people were killed and a third was critically injured Sunday afternoon in a head-on crash southwest of Buellton.
The collision involving two pickup trucks occurred shortly after 5 p.m. on the 6000 block of Santa Rosa Road, about 4½ miles west of Highway 101, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Two women in one vehicle were declared dead at the scene, said CHP Officer Michael Griffith.
They were identified by the CHP on Monday as Cassidy Falk, 23, of Solvang, and Alia Griffin, 23, of Buellton.
According to the Griffith, Falk was the driver of an eastbound Chevy pickup when, for unknown reasons, it crossed a double-yellow line and slammed into a westbound Chevy pickup driven by Morgan Bouslaugh, 22, of Buellton.
Bouslaugh suffered major injuries, Santa Barbara County fire Engineer Mike Gray told Noozhawk.
He added that a county Air Support Unit helicopter was dispatched to the scene to airlift the patient to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.
Details on Bouslaugh’s medical condition were not available.
Traffic on the rural roadway was shut down in both directions after the crash, which was under investigation by the CHP.
