Two people suffered major injuries Sunday afternoon in a collision on Highway 101 in Santa Maria, according to the Santa Maria Fire Department.

The crash involving a car and a motorcycle occurred at about 4:40 p.m. in the northbound freeway lanes at the Donovan Road exit ramp, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A Calstar medical helicopter was dispatched to the scene, and landed on the freeway to pick up at least one of the victims for transport to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.

The identities of the patients and details on their medical conditions were not available.

The northbound lanes were shut down for a time in the area of the collision, and CHP officers were running traffic breaks beginning at Clark Avenue.

The crash was under investigation by the CHP.
