A 20-year-old Lompoc man has been named as the alleged armed robber fatally wounded during a police shooting last week at a convenience store on the southeast edge of the city.

Connor Amador died after being shot early Friday outside the Circle K store, 1421 E. Ocean Ave., Sgt. Scott Morgan of the Lompoc Police Department said Wednesday.

Lompoc officers were dispatched at 11:30 p.m. last Thursday to an armed robbery at the convenience store, where a male suspect robbed the store clerk of money and alcohol before fleeing the area, Morgan said. Officers searched, but the suspect could not be found.

At approximately 1:20 a.m. Friday, officers were again dispatched to the Circle K for an armed male near the gas pumps.

The suspect reportedly had attempted to carjack a victim in the parking lot, Morgan said, but the victim fled from the area on foot.

After the unsuccessful carjacking, the armed male entered Circle K and attempted to rob the clerk again.

When the man exited the store, he was confronted by police officers and a shooting occurred, Morgan added.

“An investigation of the officer-involved shooting is active and ongoing and is being conducted by the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office,” Morgan said Wednesday.

Amador was arrested in October 2022 and charged with felony second-degree robbery, misdemeanor resisting arrest and a special allegation for personal use of a deadly or dangerous weapon.

The case was referred to mental health treatment court with a review scheduled for later this month.

A GoFundMe site, available by clicking here, has been created to help the Amador family with funeral costs, revealing how those who knew the man would remember him.

“He filled everyone’s life around him with laughter and love,” according to the GoFundMe site. He made such an impact on so many of us. He was a dedicated brother, uncle, son, and a great friend. He had an easy-going nature and was a self proclaimed ‘sweetheart.’ He was always willing to lend a helping hand (or ear) to any who needed it.”

It is the family’s second loss in 14 months. Amador’s brother, Jeffrey “Jay” Amador II, died at age 23 in October 2022.

“As you can imagine, the family is completely devastated,” the GoFundMe page stated. “The brothers were inseparable, we can only wish they are together now in peace. May we always remember them with a smile on our faces.”
