The Santa Maria Valley & Lompoc Valley chambers of commerce are joining Vandenberg Space Force Base to present the annual State of Vandenberg event, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. May 17 on base at the Pacific Coast Club, 758 Nebraska Ave.

The event will feature a keynote presentation by U.S. Space Force Col. Mark Shoemaker, Space Launch Delta 30 commander. He will be joined by U.S. Space Force Lt. Gen. Douglas Schiess, Space Forces – Space commander; U.S. Air Force Col. Christopher Cruise, 377th Test and Evaluation Group commander; U.S. Space Force Col. Phillip Verroco, Delta 5 commander; and Darren Buck, Delta 1 deputy commander.

Each will provide an overview of their activities on VSFB, highlighting key accomplishments from the past year and outlining expectations for the upcoming year.

“Partnering with our local chambers through this event gives us an opportunity to enhance transparency and strengthen the bond between our service members and our neighbors,” said Shoemaker.

“I firmly believe that the heart of every military installation lies within the communities that support us,” he said. “This collaboration goes beyond raising awareness of what’s happening on base; it is an occasion for us to come together, share experiences, and build a resilient and united community.”

“As the Lompoc Valley Chamber CEO, I am thrilled to join forces once again with the Santa Maria Valley Chamber and Vandenberg Space Force Base for the annual State of Vandenberg event,” said DeVika Stalling.

“This year’s lineup, featuring esteemed commanders like Col. Shoemaker and Lt. Gen. Schiess, promises insights into the base’s achievements and future endeavors,” Stalling said. “Beyond spotlighting Vandenberg’s vital role in our economy, this event fosters a deeper connection between our military and civilian communities, reinforcing the bonds that make our region strong.”

“Our collaboration with Vandenberg Space Force Base for the State of Vandenberg event underscores the dynamic relationship between our community and the base, highlighting the significant contributions they make to our region’s economic vitality,” said Glenn Morris, chamber president/CEO.

“This event gives us an opportunity to increase awareness of Vandenberg’s pivotal role in driving growth and innovation in our economy, while fostering a sense of unity and mutual support between our military and civilian communities,” Morris said.
