The 2026 installation of the Semana Nautica sports festival came to a close last weekend, with local aquatics athletes competing in five different events at local beaches.
The weekend began with the final Reef & Run of the summer at East Beach on Thursday, and concluded with a 6-Mile Ocean Swim on Sunday beginning at Goleta Beach and finishing at Hendry’s Beach.
The 6-Mile Ocean Swim is the longest and last swim race of the summer, featuring a coastal route that goes from the Goleta Pier past More Mesa and Hope Ranch. Each swimmer has a dedicated kayak safety escort.
Jonathan Dolan, a 24-year-old, reached the Hendry’s Beach finish line with a time of 2:16.26. Five minutes later, Tesla Profumo (49) became the first female to complete the race with her time of 2:21.22.
David Lederman (60) completed the top three with his time of 2:24.30, while the 16-year-old Grace Nackers earned fourth place with a mark of 2:28.13.
The Reef & Run event includes four different races: a 500-meter swim, a 1,000-meter swim, a 1-mile swim and a biathlon.
Tessa Hope, a 15-year-old, captured the 500-meter swim victory when she crossed the finish line in 7:32. The podium was rounded out by a pair of 15-year-old males as Thacher Cox (7:49) and James Ramseon (7:55) finished in second and third place, respectively.
The top five was rounded out by a pair of family members, as 15-year-old Payton Schroeder came in fourth at 7:57 and 13-year-old Reagan Schroeder earned fifth with a time of 8:11.
In the 1,000-meter swim, 16-year-old Conrad Kitson took home the top spot with a strong time of 14:58. He was followed by Kai Staal (32) in second place at 15:30 and Ryan Reid (50) in the third-place slot at 15:34.
Andrew Maxwell (41) came in fourth at 16:50, and Chelsea Siciliano (44) was the first female to cross the finish line and the fifth overall finisher with her time of 17:09.
Zachary Zamecki also earned an individual title at the Reef & Run, finishing the 1-Mile swim with a time of 22:39 to finish ahead of the rest of the pack. Jason Smith and Steven Hunt came in second and third, respectively.
Grace Damien (44) won the female division of the 1-mile swim, coming in sixth place overall with a mark of 25:22.
Meanwhile, Eddie Schultz’s (25) time of 28:50 was enough to be crowned the Reef & Run biathlon champion. Shaina King (21) followed as the first female finisher and overall second place with a time of 32:37.
