A 23-year-old Lompoc man was killed Wednesday evening when his motorcycle collided with a car on Highway 1 south of Lompoc, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Joseph Cruz was riding a 2015 Yamaha YZF-R1 southbound, south of Highway 246, at about 5:45 p.m. when he drifted into the opposing lane on a right-hand curve, said CHP Officer Michael Griffith.

Cruz suffered fatal injuries when the motorcycle‚ traveling in excess of 55 mph — slammed into the front of a northbound 2022 Tesla Model S driven by Rebecca Dyann Falfal, 38, of Lompoc, Griffith said. 

Falfal sustained minor injuries, Griffith said, and was transported to a local hospital.
