A total of 23 current or former Santa Barbara Foresters were taken in the Major League Baseball draft Sunday and Monday, the second-most since 25 were picked in the 2015 draft.
The list starts with Matt McLain, taken in the first round by the Cincinnati Reds, the fourth first-round pick in Foresters’ history. Last season, McLain led the Foresters to their record eighth National Baseball Congress World Series title. The shortstop hit .436 over 30 games last year with 47 runs scored and 28 RBI.
Eight other drafted players were on the 2020 roster, including pitching ace Nick Nastrini from UCLA, who is proving to be the pitching ace for the 2021 Foresters team as well. Nastrini was taken in the fourth round by the L.A. Dodgers.
