Two people were seriously injured early Sunday in a crash on Highway 101 near Santa Barbara, according to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department. test
Firefighters and other emergency personnel were dispatched shortly after 3 a.m. to the crash scene at the northbound freeway offramp at El Sueno Road, said fire Capt. Scott Safechuck.
The vehicle, a white sedan, slammed into a tree, which ended up blocking the right-hand lane.
The driver was critically injured, while a passengers suffered moderate injuries, Safechuck said.
Both were taken by AMR ambulance to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. Their names and details on their injuries were not available.
Moderate extrication was required to remove the victims from the wreckage.
The slow lane on the freeway was closed for about an hour while the wreckage and debris were removed.
The crash was under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
