A 33-year-old Santa Maria man has been named as the victim killed in a Dec. 17 shooting that left another person injured.

Emergency personnel responded to a 4:30 p.m. Dec. 17 report of a shooting at a large residential gathering on the 500 block of West Cook Street, near Curryer Street.

One person died at the scene despite lifesaving measures, police said.

A second injured person, whose name was not released, was transported to a local hospital with critical injuries, but is expected to survive, police said. 

On Thursday, Sgt. Trevor Hutton confirmed Joshua Anthony Maldonado had died due to injuries he suffered in the shooting.

Family and friends of Maldonado have united to help his family with funeral expenses, including creating a GoFundMe page, available here. 

“We lost a beloved father, brother, son, friend and a Raider fan. Josh was taken from his family and loved ones too soon.”

As of Thursday afternoon, more than $5,100 had been raised toward the $20,000 goal.

Last weekend’s shooting was at least the third to occur at parties in the Santa Maria Valley since October.

On Oct. 14, officers were dispatched just before 1 a.m. to the 1300 block of Yale Place in response to a shooting that had just occurred at a residence in the area. 

One adult male was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. Two other victims, one adult male and one adult female who were at party, later sought treatment for less serious injuries related to the shooting, police said. 

Days later,  police arrested Oscar Erik Jimenez Ruiz, 27, of Santa Maria in connection with the shootings. 

On Oct. 21, officers were dispatched responded to a report of multiple shots fired on the 1000 block of North School Street, police said.

An altercation occurred before the shooting that killed Arthur Pichardo, 20, and left three victims, one juvenile and two adults, with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.

Police have not announced any arrests in connection with the Oct. 21 shootings.
