The third in the series of presentations about Vandenberg Space Force Base launch activity will be held Wednesday in Carpinteria.

The presentation will start at 5 p.m. at the Carpinteria Veterans Memorial Building, 941 Walnut Ave., and is expected to last about 90 minutes.

“This event is part of a broad effort to engage directly with local communities, provide updates on Vandenberg’s mission, and address questions about sonic booms and their impacts,” base officials said.

“Mission Update” will feature Col. James T. Horne III, commander of Space Launch Delta 30, who will speak about Vandenberg’s operations and its critical role in national defense.

The second presenter will be Dr. Kent Gee, physics professor and chair of the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Brigham Young University.

Gee will speak about his findings and ongoing efforts as lead researcher for a study of rocket launch ascent acoustics and sonic boom effects on communities near Vandenberg.

Similar presentations took place in Lompoc in February and Santa Barbara in March with a fourth reportedly planned for Ojai in May.
