Four people were injured, one critically, in a suspected DUI collision Tuesday evening on Highway 1 at Vandenberg Space Force Base, according to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.

Firefighters and other emergency personnel were dispatched at about 6 p.m. to the crash involving six vehicles near San Antonio and Firefighter roads, fire Capt. Scott Safechuck said.

The driver accused of causing the crash was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, California Highway Patrol Officer Michael Griffith said Wednesday.

Raymond Guerra, 21, of Lompoc, was driving northbound on Highway 1 and crossed over the center median into the path of southbound vehicles, causing a crash, the CHP said in an incident report.

Guerra’s vehicle collided with a vehicle driven by Yadira Rayarios, 20, of Lompoc, and other southbound vehicles were unable to avoid the initial crash, Griffith said.

Those two other vehicles were driven by Deya Bernal, 54, of Lompoc, and Wen Lee, 60, of Milpitas, the CHP said.

All four people were transported to Marian Regional Medical Center with injuries, according to the CHP.

“Guerra was airlifted from the scene to Marian Medical Center where he was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence,” Griffith said.

Guerra had major injuries after being ejected from his vehicle, and was airlifted to the hospital, according to fire and CHP officials.

Rayarios and Bernal suffered major injuries, the CHP said, while Lee had moderate injuries, and all three were taken to the hospital by ground ambulance.

Southbound Highway 1 was shut down for a time after the crash, which was under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
