Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s detectives arrested a Carpinteria man earlier this week and seized nine pounds of drugs — including methamphetamine, fentanyl and cocaine — from a home after an investigation.

Kenneth Rivas, 41, was taken into custody on Tuesday after a traffic stop in Santa Barbara, per Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Raquel Zick. 

He was booked at the Santa Barbara County Main Jail on suspicion of possession of narcotics for sale and possession of a firearm and ammunition by a prohibited person, all felonies. 

Superior Court records show he was charged with multiple felonies, including possession of a controlled substance with the intent to sell, possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of ammunition.

He was also charged with enhancements relating to the drug charges and a prior felony conviction. 

He is due back in court on Aug. 26 for a preliminary hearing setting.

After Rivas’ arrest, detectives served a search warrant at his home on the 1200 block of Vallecito Road in Carpinteria, per Zick.

They confiscated large amounts of suspected drugs, including 3.2 pounds of fentanyl, 6.5 pounds of methamphetamine, 1 ounce of cocaine, alongside a handgun, ammunition and $1,100 in cash, according to Zick. 

“This seizure equates to approximately 14,528 potentially lethal doses of fentanyl,” she added. 

He is being held on a $250,000 bail, according to Sheriff’s Office custody logs. 

Rivas was convicted last year of possession of narcotics with intent to sell and possession of controlled substance with intent to sell, as well as three related enhancements.

He was sentenced to 10 years in state prison with credit for time served.
